Carriage of Dangerous Goods
The Carriage of Dangerous Goods and Use of Transportable Pressure Equipment Regulations (CDGTPE Regulations) 2009 came into force on 1 July 2009. They replace the 2007 regulations. The carriage of dangerous goods by road or rail is regulated internationally by agreements and European Directives, with biennial updates of the Directives take account of technological advances. New safety requirements are implemented by Member States via domestic regulations which - for GB - directly reference the technical agreements. The Regulations implement The European Agreement concerning the International Carriage of Dangerous Goods by Road 2011 (ADR), with a number of exceptions. The main duties are now covered by a single regulation, namely Regulation 5.
Variations in GB which arise from derogations are now in a DfT Approved Document.
Information on the operation of the regulations may be found in the CDG manual.
