Deadline looms for reporting packaging data under Extended Producer Responsibility

Businesses classed as "large organisations" under the new Extended Producer Responsibility for packaging (pEPR) scheme have until 1 April to submit their July to December 2024 data.
Meanwhile, those deemed "small organisations" under the pEPR scheme must submit their January to December 2024 data by 1 April.
To check if your business needs to report packaging data, please visit GOV.UK, and if necessary, follow the online instructions to access the new Report Packaging Data (RPD) service.
If obligated packaging producers have not reported their data or registered, they may face enforcement action.
Register with your environmental regulator by 1 April 2025
In addition, all obligated organisations, small and large, must also register with their environmental regulator by 1 April 2025; guidance on how to register can be found on GOV.UK.
What happens if a company does not submit their packaging data, as required by law?
The Producer Responsibility Obligations (Packaging and Packaging Waste) Regulations 2024 details the enforcement options available to regulators in the event of offences being committed (i.e. failure to comply with regulatory requirements). Enforcement action may include advice and guidance, a warning, formal caution, civil sanctions or prosecution.
List of organisations that have submitted their packaging data
Large organisations (‘large producers’) who have reported data using the report packaging data RPD service can be found on GOV.UK.
More help and advice on how to submit your data can be found on GOV.UK.
Packaging Recycling Notes (PRNs)/ Packaging Exporter Recycling Notes (PERNs)
Functionality to accept/reject PRNs and PERNs towards your 2025 recycling obligations on the EPR for packaging service is now available.
If you are a direct producer or compliance scheme with responsibility for meeting recycling obligations for 2025, then you should start using the EPR for packaging digital service to accept PRNs/PERNs towards your 2025 balance via the RPD portal. You cannot use NPWD to do this.
Four Nations Policy Statement
The four administrations of the United Kingdom have published a joint policy statement outlining the intended environmental effects of the pEPR policy and the methods to achieve them.
The four nations view the delivery of these outcomes, facilitated by PackUK (the pEPR Scheme Administrator), as crucial to supporting the transition to a circular economy, while maximising the carbon efficiencies associated with the lifecycle of packaging materials.
