Evaluation of Gatekeeper protocol into the UK

2022-0110

Over the past year, AIC was requested to carry out an evaluation of the implementation of the Gatekeeper protocol, which is currently used for imported crops, as a method of UK crop assurance. AIC worked with a range of AIC committees and the Crop Stakeholder Group, chaired by the NFU and includes, feed industry, millers and maltster representatives as well as Red Tractor Assurance and others.

It has been concluded that there is no market demand for this approach at the moment and the current farm assurance schemes meets the needs of the UK market in the most cost and resource-efficient way. AIC will continue to evaluate other methods of assurance as proposals come forward.
