Government officials have benefited from the first in a series of webinars hosted by the Agricultural Industries Confederation (AIC) to improve understanding of how the Crop Protection and Agronomy sector supports sustainable agriculture, horticulture, and amenity sectors.

On Tuesday (14 January), civil servants from relevant government departments joined the first webinar which gave an overview of arable farming in the UK.

Hazel Doonan, AIC's Head of Crop Protection and Agronomy, said: "These webinars are a valuable part of our ongoing work to raise awareness of our Member businesses' essential contribution to underpinning sustainable crop production in the UK.

"They are a great opportunity for AIC to inform policymakers on the key issues affecting the industry and for government officials to ask questions and grow their understanding of the sector.

"These virtual events follow a series of popular visits to Member businesses last summer which demonstrated the value AIC Members deliver, with almost 60 officials from Defra, the Health and Safety Executive (HSE), and the Chemicals Regulation Division (CRD)."

AIC will be hosting further webinars for staff at the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra) and other relevant government departments and agencies in the coming weeks.
