Maize Aflatoxin Protocol updated - origins identified as High Risk
2022-0221
Following the record breaking temperatures and droughts across Europe during the summer of 2022 it was to be expected that some countries would see increased levels of Aflatoxin in their maize harvest.
In response to the first results from the 2022 harvest, and other market intelligence the participating scheme owners (AIC, EFISC-GTP, GMP+ International, OVOCOM FCA and QS) have agreed to make the following changes:
- Hungary moves from Medium to HIGH
- Romania moves from Medium to HIGH
These changes will require increased sampling and analysis for maize and maize co-products from these origins, with the results reported to buyers.
The scheme owners will continue to monitor results closely, and the Maize Protocol will be updated as required. The latest version of the protocol can be downloaded here and the new sampling requirements should be implemented by 23rd November 2022.
