AIC Feed sector Members are encouraged to engage with a Veterinary Medicines Directorate (VMD) consultation on proposed changes to the Veterinary Medicines Regulations 2013 (VMR), as they apply in Great Britain.

The VMR set out the controls on the marketing, manufacture, distribution, possession, and administration of veterinary medicines and medicated feed. They are a critical tool to help protect animal health, public health and the environment.

VMD says the proposed changes will "modernise the VMR, make them more effective and maintain the UK as an attractive place to develop and market veterinary medicines.

They will also introduce further measures to help tackle antimicrobial resistance and build on the success government and industry have already achieved.

Find out more about the consultation on the GOV.UK website.

Members need to share their views on the proposed changes by 31 March 2023.

How to respond

An online survey and full consultation package is available on the Department for Environment, Food, and Rural Affairs' (Defra) Consultation Hub, which can also be found by visiting the Veterinary Medicines Directorate’s new engagement website - VMD Connect.

The website provides details about several focussed Q&A sessions for the consultation to be held between 27 February and 3 March 2023.

AIC will review the consultation documents and discuss the content of an AIC response with the relevant sector and assurance Committees.

Members with an interest in medicated feed are strongly encouraged to prepare and submit their own response.
