A special report demonstrating how the Fertiliser Industry Assurance Scheme (FIAS) secures the UK's fertiliser supply chain has been published by AIC Services, which is marking its 20-year anniversary.

The interactive report offers a comprehensive look at the value and security brought by the pioneering trade assurance scheme since it launched in 2006.

It includes a short animated video explaining how and why FIAS was first created against a backdrop of incidents involving fertiliser misuse across the globe, including multiple terror attacks and major incidents such as the Texas fertiliser plant explosion in 2013.

John Kelley, Managing Director of AIC Services, said: "FIAS is needed to ensure that fertiliser supply chains remain safe, secure and traceable in the future.

"Threats include the poor storage or transportation of fertilisers as well as the use of fertilisers in improvised explosive devices - this scheme ensures that these threats are minimised.

"The scheme will continue to develop in line with legislation and other changes to ensure FIAS continues to meet the needs of the industry both now and in the future."
