A special report demonstrating how three vital Trade Assurance Schemes underpin UK feed and food safety has been published by AIC Services.

The new interactive report offers a comprehensive look at the rigour and confidence brought to UK animal feed and food supply chains by three pioneering Trade Assurance Schemes since they were originally launched in the late 1990s and early 2000s.

AIC Services manages the Feed Materials Assurance Scheme (FEMAS), the Trade Assurance Scheme for Combinable Crops (TASCC), and the Universal Feed Assurance Scheme (UFAS).

Each scheme was developed in response to a succession of feed and food safety incidents which put the health and safety of humans and animals at risk, including Salmonella in eggs, Bovine Spongiform Encephalopathy (BSE), and Foot and Mouth disease.

The voluntary Standards of FEMAS, TASCC, and UFAS provide a vital due diligence defence for agri-food supply chains, which ensures feed and food safety.

The report includes a foreword by Food Standards Agency (FSA) Chair Professor Susan Jebb OBE, along with testimonials from Red Tractor Chief Executive Jim Moseley and others.

John Kelley, Managing Director of AIC Services, said: "These essential Trade Assurance Schemes have developed over many years and underpin the safe supply of feed and food for the consumers and livestock industry.

"Without these Schemes, there would be a higher level of feed and food incidents, product withdrawals, and a lack of confidence in the UK agri-food supply chain.

"The industry has worked hard to develop and support FEMAS, TASCC and UFAS, and these Schemes will continually develop to meet the changing needs of the UK consumer and government requirements."

Watch the videos below to find out more about how these Trade Assurance Schemes work and the feed and food safety incidents which led to their development.
