The FAR Game Feed Module covers nutrition, gamebird production systems, feed management, biosecurity, hygiene, health and welfare and key performance indicators. It also includes a focus on sustainable game feed and how this relates to the carbon footprint of game farms, shoots and game meat. A 10 question multiple choice knowledge test must be passed at the end of each section in order to move on to the next section.

 

 

Detailed Course Content:

Game Feed Module G1

Introduction & Nutrient Overview

 

G1 starts with an introduction and background of the Feed Adviser Register before going on to look at greenhouse gases and tackling environmental issues relevant to feed in the gamebird sector. It finishes with a nutrition overview and key nutrients in gamebird feed.

 

Game Feed Module G2

Nutritional Overview & Gamebird Production Systems

 

G2 looks at micro and macro feed ingredients, diet specifications and formulating diets before going on to consider key additives in game feed. It finishes with nutritional information on gamebird feed labels and key considerations of gamebird breeding systems.

Game Feed Module G3

G3 looks at the link between nutrition and performance and considers feed programmes for breeding, laying and rearing gamebirds as well as causes of health and/or disease challenges, gut health and feed management .

Game feeds and Feed Management

 

Game Feed Module G4

Biosecurity, Hygiene & Welfare

G4 covers biosecurity and hygiene then goes on to discuss the 5 freedoms, water and feed access and how they relate to welfare issues in gamebird production ending with common and notifiable diseases.

 

Game Feed Module G5

G5 looks at respiratory diseases such as gape worms and mycoplasma before going  on to look in more detail at enteric diseases including Rotavirus and Hexamita.

 

Game Feed Module G6

G6 starts with a detailed look at how KPIs support control before a brief summary of wild game, goes on to consider the legal requirements of gamebird rearing/farming, covers approved game handling and the British Game Assurance. It considers recent challenges with opportunities to improve before finishing with sustainable feeding of gamebirds, carbon footprint and sustainable solutions.

 

Game Feed Module G7

G7 is 10 random multiple choice questions randomly chosen from all 6 sections and needs an 80% pass rate to successfully pass the complete module.
