The tariff-free trade of most goods - including grain - between the UK and Ukraine has been extended to 2029, the Government has announced.

The original trade agreement signed between the two countries in May 2022 was due to expire on 31 March 2024 but has now been extended by five years for almost all goods.

UK Minister for Trade Policy, Greg Hands, said: "This agreement provides much-needed long-term economic support to Ukraine, its businesses and people.

"The UK will continue to do everything in its power to support Ukraine’s fight against Putin’s invasion, for as long as is needed."

In a similar move, the EU Commission has proposed a renewal of the suspension of import duties and quotas on Ukrainian exports to the EU for a further year.

The proposals will be considered by the European Parliament and the Council of the European Union, with the extension set to take effect by the time the current agreement ends on 5 June 2024.
