The Minister for Food Security and Rural Affairs Daniel Zeichner MP used his AIC Conference 2024 speech yesterday (13 November) to address the agricultural industry's fears over the implications of last month's Budget.

The Minister discussed funding for agriculture in England, hinted at a national land use framework coming "soon", and acknowledged the "anxiety" of farmers and agri-supply businesses over announcements made by the Chancellor in the Budget, including on Agricultural and Business Property Relief (APR/BPR).

He said: "I stand firmly with the Chancellor on the decisions that she has made. We're not going to see any change because the budgets are set.

"This is an extremely complicated area of inheritance tax and business planning. Yes, it will require behaviour change in some cases, but it will be relatively few people who are affected."

Watch Minister Zeichner's speech at AIC Conference 2024, plus a Q&A session with AIC Chief Executive Robert Sheasby featuring delegate questions.
